Abstract

In recent years, foreign language teaching studies, Asian students, especially Chinese students have always been and silent, passive language learners equated. Their English class silent, does not participate in classroom activities, do not take the initiative to express their views. Students lack of classroom participation is a widely discussed issue has caused. Many teachers in the classroom silence phenomenon attributed to culture, classroom questioning skills and personality traits such factors as the students themselves. But still not too much attention to how to change teaching methods to overcome this phenomenon. And many teachers still continue to use the traditional teaching mode, such as a one-way lecture-style teaching methods for teaching. Therefore, to overcome the silence in the classroom, the first from the aspects of classroom teaching new understanding of the phenomenon of silence. Silence in the classroom studies, we must first fully understand the reasons for the classroom silence. Drawback of previous studies: Although a detailed analysis of the reasons for silence in the classroom, and put forward the corresponding countermeasures, but not in practice prove its feasibility and effectiveness. Therefore, this article combing classroom silence and task-based approach based on the theory of first class students in vocational colleges conducted a survey of the reasons for silence, and then put forward to promote students' language output by applying a task-based approach to overcome the silence classroom phenomenon. Vocational English classroom silence causes questionnaire involving 114 students in vocational colleges. Survey found that students in vocational college English classroom silence is dominated by low English proficiency, lack of motivation to learn English, the student's own personality, teaching methods, and teachers' questions and other factors cause. To explore task-based approach in overcoming the classroom silence the feasibility and effectiveness, the researchers task-based approach applied to classroom teaching. The experiment uses two kinds of quantitative and qualitative research methods, including tests, questionnaires, classroom recordings and other research tools. Before the experiment in Shandong Agricultural Administrators' College freshman students and classroom silence level of English language proficiency test, the test will be performed quite two classes were randomly divided into experimental classes and control classes. In the experimental class teaching using the task-based approach, while the control class is using the traditional pedagogy. During the experiment, these two classes three times a classroom recording, the last of these two classes of students for English proficiency and classroom experiments testing the degree of silence. Through statistical software SPSS for statistics and analysis of experimental data, the researchers obtained the findings. The experimental results showed that: (1) Compared with the traditional teaching methods, task-based approach to create a more harmonious relationship between teachers and the learning environment, which can allow more students to participate in classroom activities and in turn to effectively overcome the students' classroom silence, to a greater extent stimulate student interest and enthusiasm. (2) Compared with the traditional teaching methods, more task-based approach can effectively improve the students' English proficiency and language proficiency. Finally, the authors of the study are summarized and explained the main findings of this study and weaknesses, as well as some suggestions for future research.
