Abstract

Due to a lack of morphological changes and typical affixes which have grammatical meaning in modern Chinese word-formation system,the methed of attching roots and affixes to words is not used in great quantities in the process of Chinese vocabulary development.But with the social development,new things appear one after another, and compounding,as the most important method of forming new words,namely the method of attaching roots and quasi-affixes to words is used more and more widely,These quasi-affixes are different from both affixes and roots in their characteristics,with the former lying in between the latter two. They have strong word-formation ability to form new words by combining with lots of roots to adapt to the social needs.In addition,the number of quasi-affix shows a rising trend over time,which catches more and more attention of linguists.Previous studies on quasi-affixes are often confined to both their characteristics and specific cases paying little attention to the diachronic aspect.Based on the corpus of Paper’s Daliy in sixty years,this paper seeks to prsent and analyze several widely accepted and comparatively typical quasi-affixes from the following aspects.First,judging from the location,these quasi-affixes have fixed position..In terms of their usage,quasi-affixes sometimes combine with words,and sometimes phrases,and sometimes are integrated together with other quasi-affixes into words.So the word structure becomes complicated. Second judging from the combining lexicon, the combining words are limited to one kind of word,while are rarely other kind of word.Thirdjudging from semantic filed,quasi-affixes compound with roots or phrases to form a semantic field,and all the compounding words have the same sememe.Finally,the compounding words have a convergence on the grammatical functions.By objectively analyzing and describing the grammatical units,combining lexicon,forming semantic field,and grammatical functions in detail,this paper tries to reveal the quasi-affix’s evolution and features in modern Chinese.
