Abstract

“qishi”is a modal adverb which used frequently in daily life. It is of the third grade of the HSK vocabulary. After searching the surveys about“qishi”, we’ve found that the expansion and depth on study about“qishi”didn’t fit its powerful usage. There are several types of mistake on using“qishi”by foreign students, such as superabundance, absence, wrong usage and the some types we can’t distinguish. And there is obviation by western students. In addition, although a numbers of sentences are correct if analyzed on the view of syntax, are wrong if we try to understand them form the view of the whole writing. That means we didn’t analysis this modal adverb clearly, and didn’t distinguish the words or sentence patterns which can be confused with, and didn’t figure out the context of using this adverb and the situation in which it must be used or needn’t.Then after we have study the popular text book about teaching Chinese as the second language, we’ve found that the text books haven’t explain the meaning and usage of this adverb clearly. And there may be another reason of why the student can’t use it correctly, that is the teacher can’t teach the word in a right way.We have analyzed the reason why the foreign students can’t grasp that word start from their mistaken. Depending on the study of many experts, and by anglicizing of 123 sentences from the works of famous authors of the northern about 1.71 million words, we have figure out the meaning of“qishi”is to affirm a new information on the base of denying or denying partly on a old information. The old information includes the noticeable information which can be found in the pre-context or the aft-context and the contact information (common view, deduction of the user, and the preinstall information). After working in articles, we have found that the functions of“qishi”is denying, judging, asserting, connecting and mitigating the mood.Then we have distinguished the words or short patterns can be confused with“qishi”, and searched for the situations that“qishi”must show up or needn’t, and worked on the word which can be used with“qishi”. At the end of the study, we try to work out a useful design of how to teach“qishi”, and do a small experiment.
