Abstract


Starting with the process of editorial department, synthesizing the doubts in participant observation, doing some depth interview with the head of different segments in news production processing, find out the influence elements and the coping strategy which in news production processing of Taiwan.From the news interview, editing, finalizing, and publishing to the final report presented, "gatekeeper" is participating in different areas. This article will focus on the process of news production. The news production process of the United Daily News is recorded by participant observation, highlighting written news, before-compile meeting etc sectors. The method is use of content analysis, three major newspapers in Taiwan-"the United Daily News", "Liberty Times", "Apple Daily" are taken as the sample media. "Zheng Hongyi incident" is selected to report the quantitative analysis. Through depth interview to explore layered process of news production in the "gatekeeper" theory of specific practical methods, the gatekeeper behavior factors presented in the participant observation and content analysis are taken as the main issue for depth interview.Study found that the behavior of gatekeepers’ factors in the process of news production has many aspects. According to hierarchy of influences model, at the core of the personal level, the chief editor who makes the final decision for the content of layout, his news idea will affect the journalists’ written and edited layout. At media management level, the influence on report objectivity by the fixed line interview can be coordinated through the principle of balance. At media organizational level, the window of the hierarchical management style is beneficial for transferring of information between different levels, especially the layout adjustment in response to emergency issues. At media external level, in addition to consider the reader and similar media, it is also need to realize that digital is providing traditional media with opportunity for development.Newspapers are facing fierce competition, the traditional newspaper media should adjust from the whole process of news production. In the link of news select, media workers should act as "bridge" which applies the concept of reader-based in the process of news written. In the part of news integration, it should focus on the principle of balance, including the report balance in multi-angel interpretation and layout balance in multi-role. In the aspect of news presenting, it should develop the science and technology to transform newspaper into digital, presenting news and information in multi-platform.
