Abstract

Cerebrovascular disease is one of the top three diseases causing human death. In all cerebrovascular diseases, ischemic cerebrovascular disease accounts for about 55%-80%. Cerebral hypoperfusion ususally is the early stage of Cerebrovascular disease. Also it is a common pathological course of the developing of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, et al. Hence, it Is of Great Significance to early diagnose Cerebral hypoperfusion because it can reduce the risk of death and disability.Photoacoustic imaging combined the high contrast of pure optical imaging and the high resolution of pure ultrasonic imaging. Due to the capability of detecting cerebal hemoglobin concentration and SO2 with high sensitivity, it has great potential in early diagnosis and pathological research. In phantom study, the calculated concentration of red ink in double-ink mixtures with PAM has a 3% difference with the result measured with spectrophotometric analysis. In ex vivo experiment, the measured result exhibt 4.26%-12.16% difference between the PAM and spectrophotometric analysis. To verify the capability of in vivo detection, we established an in vivo hypoxia model of rat by inhalation of 100% O2 and air. The result showed that the HbT of three veins relatively increased by 5%, 9.8%, and 15.2%. While the SO2 relatively decreased by 8%, 7.8 % and 10%. Then we eastablished cerebral hypoperfusion model of rat with unilateral common carotid occlusion. Hbt and SO2 of the model were monitored by both PAM and LSI. The result suggested that PAM could monitor the relative change of Hbt and SO2 which had same tendency in rat’s cerebral vasculars with high sensitivity. In conclusion, PAM has great potential in detecting Hbt and SO2 in vivo and wide prospect in early diagnosis of cerebral hypoperfusion and transient ischemic attack.
