Abstract


Since the 1980s Holec autonomous learning (Learner autonomy) concept , it has become the hot issues in education and psychology , and become the new trend in foreign language teaching . Today, however, the attribution and self- learning is not many , attributable to the influence of the independent study empirical research is scarce . Around three main issues of this study to explore the correlation between the two , in order to improve foreign language learning the effectiveness of current situation : 1 ) non - English majors independent learning ? Whether there were significant differences in the different levels of students self - learning ability ? 2 ) non- English professional students attributed the success of English learning ? whether there were significant differences in the attribution of the different levels of students ? 3) non-English majors attributed autonomous relationship with learning English ? using questionnaires and interviews the form of research , survey non-English majors in China University of Petroleum ( East China) . The researchers collected data using SPSS 13.0 statistical software to obtain valid data as an auxiliary to answer these questions , and then use the interview data . First, non- English major students' self - learning ability is generally low , but the self- learning ability and English language proficiency were positively correlated . Secondly , the learners prefer learning success or failure attributed to internal factors , such as capacity , strategies and interests . In on the success attributed to the high level of students are more inclined than the low level of students due to internal factors , failure attributed to different levels of students did not differ significantly . Third, attributed to the self - learning ability of English learners were positively correlated. Based on the above findings , this paper presents the research on teaching to help improve the self- learning ability of non - English majors .
