Abstract


Basic research is of great strategic significance of national resources , attention and strengthen basic research has become the world scientific and technological development of the strategic priorities. One of the key factors of basic research is that people who engage in basic research , and in the natural sciences , a peak of academic excellence is relatively short , so the country through a variety of ways in the introduction of high-end scientific research personnel , the introduction has the potential to become academic excellence in basic research talent is significant importance in the future, whether it has the potential to achieve higher academic status . This potential has many facets , but this study attempts to explore the background of this aspect of its higher education characteristics . And trying to explain the causes of these characteristics , as determined in the culture of academic excellence in the academic ability of college selection, training and other aspects of academic ability to provide reference . In this study, the American Academy of randomly selected 233 2006,2007,2008,2009 four academicians as samples , conducted a survey of its higher education background . Respectively 2009 Academic Ranking of World Universities , 2009 U.S. News And World Report 's Best Graduate Schools , 2010 Carnegie classification during their undergraduate student Dr. Gao Xiaoyu attending colleges and universities during the period analyzed. The main conclusions include the following points: First, more than half of the sample engaged in mathematical science and biological science research in the field .
