Abstract


Psychological education ability, as an important factor of the structure of psychological education ability, restricted the efficiency of implement of mental health education. So far, research about psychological education ability was focused on the subjective discussion in China. The theoretical connotation of psychological education ability has not been defined scientifically. These influenced people’s cognition on psychological education ability to some extent. In addition, nonstandard measures also lead to people do not understand the specific level of school teachers’psychological education abilities, and influenced the development of school psychological education.Based on the current situation of psychological education ability, this study referenced the current research results and constructed the connotation and structure of school teachers’psychological education ability and developed the instruments by literature analysis, questionnaire survey, and factor analysis. The developmental characteristics of school teachers’ psychological education ability were also analyzed. The relationships of school teachers’psychological education ability to Big Five personality traits were also examined.This study consisted of theoretical construct, questionnaires compilation, characteristics studies, and relationships studies. There were following conclusions based on the results:(1) School teachers’ psychological education ability was an integrative competence, which was the combination of operating skills and personal mental characteristics to complete the psychological education. It consisted of psychological education program design ability, psychological guidance and counseling ability, personal mental characteristics, and knowledge connotation.(2) The scale of School Teachers’Psychological Education Ability developed in this study had a good reliability and concurrent validation which were all meeting the requirements of psychometrics. It can be as an effective measure of school teachers’ psychological education ability.(3) There were significantly gender, grade, discipline, and job category differences on school teachers’psychological education ability.(4) There were significantly high relationships between school teachers’ psychological education ability and Big Five personality traits. Agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness to experience were strongly predicted on school teachers’ psychological education ability.
