Abstract


A unique and sophisticated paradigm or methodology system is the important sign of Comparative Education as a mature discipline. It has been nearly two hundred years since "the father of Comparative Education" Julian issued the "Comparative Education research project and preliminary views "in 1817, which signs the establishment of modern Comparative Education. In the course of development, the exploration and contestation to paradigm is always the main theme.The systematic research and combing of relativism research paradigm can strengthen the construction of Comparative Education discipline, enrich Comparative Education methodology research, deepen research to the Relativism research paradigm , and promote understanding and exchange of International culture. Relativism Research Paradigm in Comparative Education takes the customer-cultural values and cognitive style as a reference system to understand the phenomenon of cultural and educational customers. It originated in the early 20th century, prevalent in 1960s, with profound basis of philosophical theory and social science theory. The development process can be divided into four stages, as "pre- relativism”period, the classical relativism period, typical relativism period and the "new relativism "period. It focuses on the living world, denies the existence of general education law, and adheres to the value judgements, and advocates“empathy”. It shows strong tinge of relativism, uses the "national character" as the classic example, and possesses distinctive features of qualitative research.Relativism Research Paradigm in Comparative Education bases on the essential nature of cross-cultural research, breaks the shackles of a single research method, advances the construction and development of Comparative Education discipline, increases the level of the country’s education policy, beyonds the level of cultural prejudice, ignorance and the limits of civilization, and promotes International understanding and exchange of different cultures, helping to maintain world peace.
