Abstract

The multi- channel pulse height analyzer ( MCA) , is the most important part of the X and gamma -ray energy spectrum analyzer . Its main role is to nuclear radiation detector outputs a string of the amplitude of the pulse signal is converted into digital data processing X and gamma -ray spectroscopy data provide strong support for spectrum analysis applications . With the rapid development of the A / D converter and ASIC , digital multi- channel pulse height analyzer (DMCA) has gradually replaced traditional analog the MCA . The design of high-performance devices digitized MCA has many advantages , it can improve the measurement speed , reduce cost, power and volume , and easily develop new features . This topic development platform to the FPGA chip A3P1500 of Actel Corporation to implement the digital design of the MCA . External uses high-speed A / D converter LTC2248I ongoing sampling of nuclear pulse signal , the sampling period of 25MHz . In the FPGA using Verilog HDL language design equalizer ladder filter , baseline restorer , pile-up rejection , peak detection , data storage and transmission , and other functional modules nuclear pulse sampling signal processing . USB interface the design using FT245BL chip to achieve the rapid transmission of data between the external device and DMCA . DC-to- DC power conversion circuit , 5V power supply USB bus converted into a low- noise 1.5V , 3.3V and 3.3VA system power required to solve the problem of the system power supply . The test results show that the DMCA is able to meet the technical requirements of the X-ray fluorescence analyzer and γ spectrum analyzer .
