Abstract

Pearl oyster, Pinctada martensii, is one of the most important shellfish which can produce the seawater pearl but genetic depression occurred in Pinctada martensii during the cultivation in recent years. In this study we diallel crossed the Pinctada martensii of Indian with the Pinctada martensii of Hainan to get four different groups and cultured them in two different places (Lingshui and Sanyan in Hainan) in Hainan. By conparing the growth rate and mechanical strengths and nacreous layer color of four groups we got main conclusions as follows:The growth rate of the cross bred are better than that of inbred in two different places Lingshui and Sanyan in Hainan. The cross bred IS5 (shell highφ=1.76; shell weightφ=1.56) and SI5 (shell highφ=1.79; shell weightφ=1.44) of Lingshui are better than the inbred SS5 (shell highφ=1.73; shell weightφ=1.26) and II5 (shell highφ=1.76; shell weightφ=1.39), and so as the gorups in Sanya the cross bred IS5 (shell highφ=1.80; shell weightyφ=1.59) and SI5 (shell highφ=1.81; shell weightφ=1.68) are better than theinbred SS5(shell highφ=1.77; shell weightφ=1.63) and II5 (shell highφ=1.76; shell weightφ=1.65). The groups of hybridization are better than that of autocopuation in growth rate obviously, and the groups of hybridization can cultured well in Hainan. The shell mechanical strengths of the groups get by hybridization are better than that of inbred. The cross bred IS5 (shell mechanical strengths is 278.94N) and SI5(shell mechanical strengths is 272.48N) of Lingshui is big than the inbred SS5 (shell mechanical strengths is 170.68.94N) and II5 (shell mechanical strengths is 169.92N), and so it is in gorups in Sanya the cross bred IS5 (shell mechanical strengths is 283.93N) and SI5 (shell mechanical strengths is 266.12N) is big than the inbred SS5 (shell mechanical strengths is 174.88N) and II5 (shell mechanical strengths is 155.87N).In the analyse of shell nacreous layer color of tow different places Lingshui and Sanya, the shell nacreous layer color of group SI5 is more approached the color of high-quality pearls (the disparity is 13.14; 12.48; 15.8), so it is in Sanya (the disparity is 10.48; 9.30; 14.12), so it very suitable to produce piece shell. In this research we get 4 filial generations from the diallel cross of Pinctada martensii from Indian and Hainan. Compared the growth rate and mechanical strengths and nacreous layer color of those groups cultured in Lingshui and Sanya in Hainan, we find that the filial generation group of SI5 is better than local Pinctada martensii in growth rate and better than the inbred II5 in shell mechanical strengths and better than the other three groups in shell nacreous layer color. As group SI5("HY") is faster in growth rate and high in shell mechanical strength so it very suitable for the larger bead cores insertion. Since the shell nacreous layer color of the group SI5 is better than other groups obviously, it’s also suitable to produce piece shell in pearl production.
