Objective : Observe the clinical effectiveness of the acute edematous pancreatitis treatment with Salvia injection, and explore the mechanism of this process.Materials and methods: The cases of 78 patients were all selected from General Surgery, Hospital Affiliated to Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. They are hospitalized between March 2008 and January 2011 because of acute pancreatitis and were randomly divided into control group (39 patients) and contrast group (39 patients). Both groups received conventional western medical treatment, including water fasting, gastrointestinal decompression, pain relief, inhibition of gastric acid, pancreatic secretion, antibiotics to prevent infection, correcting water, electrolyte, balance of acid-base disorders, and parenteral nutrition. On this basis, intravenous infusion of salvia injection was given to the 39 patients in the control group. Results: The symptoms, relief time and average hospital stay of the patients in the control group were significantly shorter than those in the contrast group. The serum amylase of the control group returned to normal within 3.6±1.0 days, while the contrast group 6.7±1.1 days. The white blood cells of the control group returned to normal within 6.81±2.05 days, while the contrast group 8.55±2.16 days. The total effective rate of the control group was 97.4%, while the contrast group 82.1%, which shows us the significant differences (P <0.05).Conclusion: Based on conventional western medical treatment, the use of salvia injection to patients with acute pancreatitis can significantly relieve the clinical symptoms, shorten the length of hospital stay, and improve clinical efficiency, which can significantly prevent the disease from developing into severe acute pancreatitis.
