Abstract


Chiang Kai-shek has long been characterized as a counter-revolutionist by the Communist Party of China, on which continental historians do their researches of the History of the Republic and Chiang Kai-shek. However, Chiang Kai-shek always considered himself as a staunch revolutionist. So, why did Chiang Kai-shek have such a self-evaluation? What did the so-called "revolution" mean for Chiang Kai-shek? Owing to his long-standing supreme position in the Kuomintang regime, Chiang’s political thoughts had a important impact on the Modern Chinese History. So we need to do a depth research on it. In fact, during Chiang’s political career, his own knowledge on the "revolution " was forming, and then developing into the View of Revolution. Especaially his early years’ View on Revolution which to some extent is objective and progressive. In this guidance, Chiang Kai-shek had a quite radical display and was a quite positive bourgeois revolutionist. Therefore, analyzing the early years’ View on Revolution of Chiang Kai-shek is an important prerequisite to evaluate Chiang Kai-shek comprehensively and objectively.This paper bases on Chiang Kai-shek’s diaries and some other original documents, divids the evolution of Chiang Kai-shek’s View on Revolution before April 1927 into three stages, tries to restore the truth of history and contribute to the research of the Chiang Kai-shek and the history of CPC-KMT relations.
