Abstract


Self-efficacy was proposed by American social psychologist Bandura in 1977. It defined as the personal beliefs about one’s capabilities to organize and implement to attain designated levels of performance. The proposed concept has gained wide attention in various fields. In the field of education, with the help of former experimental researches, scholars concluded that individuals’self-efficacy had an important effect on their personal development. It could be reflected in the cultivation of students’learning motivation, the confidence to complete a specific task, the establishment of students’thinking and emotional patterns and so on. High school learning is an important period for students. At this moment, a good learning method and learning attitude will affect students’interest in learning. Up till now, the studies about high school students’self-efficacies are still relatively few. Especially, few scholars cast lights on Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture students’self-efficacy characteristics. Based on Bandura’s self-efficacy theory, through a questionnaire, the researcher intends to investigate the characteristics of Hunchun No.1 Senior High School students’ self-efficacy.In this thesis,350 students coming from HunChun No.1 Senior High School participated in this survey. Research data mainly consist of two parts: questionnaire results and students’final exam scores. By applying SPSS software, the researcher hopes to achieve the expected goals.Relevant data analysis shows the following results:(1) The level of Hunchun No.1 Senior High School students’English self-efficacy is at the medium level. (2) Because Hunchun is in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, some of the students are Korean nationality. Outside school, these students usually communicate with each other mainly in Korean. Through the analysis of the investigation, the author finds that Korean nationality students’ self-efficacy is different from that of Han students, to some extent; their self-efficacy is slightly higher. (3) Gender, art classes and science classes also cause the differences in students’ self-efficacy. In the gender variance, girl’s self-efficacy is slightly better than boys’. Science class students also present higher level self-efficacy than art class students’self-efficacy. (4) Self-efficacy can affect students’academic performance. According to the data made by spss, the researcher finds that self-efficacy has positive effects on achievements. Students whose self-efficacy is high can stimulate their potential abilities and enhance their confidence. Low level self-efficacy will impede student’s physical and mental development.This thesis consists of the following five parts. Parts one and two introduce research background, significance, concept and functions of self-efficacy and relevant studies made by foreign and domestic scholars. The third part discusses the research objects, tools, data collection and analysis of the questionnaire and so on. The fourth part describes the outcomes of the survey in detail. Part five is the conclusion of questionnaire. Researcher also gives some advices to high school students on how to learn English to achieve the desired learning goals.The researcher has obtained the characteristics of Hunchun No.1 Senior High School students’self-efficacy after making this investigation. Teachers should have a clear idea about students’self-efficacy characteristics. Then teachers help students discover their problems in learning and correct those mistakes. Gradually learners will increase their interest in learning English and gain better achievements.
