Abstract


Literary criticism, from the Opium War in 1840 to the eve of the may 4th in 1919, is just the Modern literary criticism. It runs in a single line with the Classical Chinese literary criticism, and the modern Chinese literary criticism is originated from this time. Then Chinese literary criticism is in the transformation from classical to modern. The transformation doesn’t grow out of thin air; it has a close relationship with the world of modernity. In order to understand the modern transformation of Chinese literary criticism really, we should at first make clear theses problems, which are what the concept of "modernity" is, what the connotation of western "modernity" is, and what the meaning of the "modernity" in the Chinese literary criticism is. After having understood the concept of "modernity", we need to know what "modernity transformation" is. As a process, modern transformation is constantly changing, developing, and gradually realizing the change from quantitative to qualitative; as a state, the literary criticism at this time is still in an embryonic stage of modernity, namely it has some characteristics of modernity, rather than full modernity. The modernity transformation of Chinese literary criticism begins on the modern society, throughout the 20th century.The modern transformation genesis of Chinese literary criticism has its unique backgrounds, and it is closely linked to the prevailing social and cultural conditions, the situation of literary and literary criticism. The transformation mainly consists of criticism ideology, criticism subject, the way of thinking and criticism method, criticism discourse, criticism target, etc. Compared with the ancient literary criticism, it has changed a lot. The transformation of modern literary criticism has certain features that it inherits the traditional consciously as a fundamental premise and it is a need for the local reality. Meanwhile, the process of transformation reflects some contradictory characteristics and can not be done at one go, because it follows the extension and struggle of the Feudal literature.Although the transformation has not completely done, we should not ignore it. The formation of modern literary criticism has an important significance of the discipline construction. The modern literary criticism scholars do not put forward the slogan of the construction of literary criticism, but they do some effort objectively, such as treating literary criticism as a deep knowledge. Under their endeavor, the theories of literary criticism gradually show systemization features. Therefore, the modern literary criticism marks the dawn of the discipline of literary criticism. The modern literary criticism is rich in resources, and some supportive theories in setting up the discipline of literary criticism can be found the root causes from it. At the same time, the modern literary criticism in historical intersection period presents some idea and consciousness, such as the unity of inheritance and innovation, the national and world vision, the present and future. These idea and consciousness also establish the direction of openness for the construction of Chinese literary criticism.
