Abstract

Radar detection performance is influenced by the atmosphere, terrain and many other factors. How to obtain the detection range of the radar quickly and accurately under battlefield environment has become one of the issues which can’t be avoided in the nowadays digitized battlefield. Considering the point of application, the thesis proposes a method for the computation of the detection range in engineering applications via theoretical analysis and engineering approximation. Thus the detection range of the radar located in a actual position with the influence of complex terrain is elevated successfully.Firstly we transform the DEM data format, the elevation value on the lattice points divided by the new latitude and longitude is obtained with 2D linear interpolation method. The new coordinate system is based on the location of radar. For these lattice points, the thesis applies the Delaunay triangulation technology and the Level of Detail method to establish Digital Elevation Model based on Triangulated Irregular Network to replace the actual ground approximately. Afterward, we use cubic spline interpolation to fit the 2D terrain which is projected by the connection between the radar and the target, and start the searching of reflection points on the 2D terrain curve. To improve the efficiency of computation, the data is further pre-processed. After the block area of the terrain corresponding to radar is determined, the subsequent work of searching reflection points is only done in the effective reflection areas. The theory of electromagnetic ray and the algorithm to search reflection points are applied to find the initial search triangle which the reflection point most likely exist. According to the given searching steps, the final position of reflection point is found, then the actual reflection point can be found in the 3D space. Finally, the radar coverage chart with the consideration of terrain is determined by calculating the magnitude of the radar’s return signals.
