Abstract


Convention and exhibition industry has always been called‘the bread of the city’or‘the barometer of the economy”. As a major component of the trade in services in the third industry, convention and exhibition industry has become a new economic growth point. In the trend of global economic integration, convention and exhibition industry has become more and more popular around the world. Every country and region treats the industry as a key industry to support, trying to improve other industries through the exchange of commodities, technologies and information in the convention and exhibition, and as a result, to improve the economic growth of a city, a region or even a country.From the first government-organized professional trade exhibition—China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair in 1999, to the second professional trade exhibition—China’s Casual Wear Fair(Shaxi,China) in 2000, to the more than ten professional exhibitions in 2010 including-“China(Zhongshan) International Electronics and Information Technologies Fair, China(Zhongshan) Equipment Manufacturing Exp、China International Foodstuffs Trade Fair(Huangpu,China) etc., convention-exhibition economy has begun to take shape in Zhongshan City. Government-oriented exhibition has developed very quickly in Zhongshan, but at the mean time, it has confronted more and more challenges, such as difficulties in recruiting participants, inaccuracy in positioning, lack of professional management, weak ability to earn money, and lack of fame etc. All the challenges hinder the further development of the government-oriented exhibition.Through the analysis to the operation of the government-oriented exhibitions in Zhongshan and to the features of exhibitions in Hong Kong and Germany, this paper studies the challenges of the government-oriented exhibition of Zhongshan, and tries to offer a solution to the problems and limitations, and to suggest a way of how the government could play a better role as a leader. There are six chapters in this paper. Chapter one: introduction. Chapter two: The current situation of the government- oriented exhibitions in Zhongshan City. Chapter three: An analysis to the operation of the exhibitions abroad. The focus of this chapter is to study the cases of exhibitions happening in Hong Kong and Germany, and to summarize their features. Chapter four :Analysis to the operation of the government-oriented exhibitions in Zhongshan and summarize the problem. Chapter five: Case study of the operation of China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair. This chapter is to introduce the operation of China (Guzhen) International Lighting Fair, and to suggest optimized solutions to the existing problems. Chapter six: Conclusion. In the conclusion, the study of the paper will be reviewed.
