Abstract


The paper first reviews our ancient city wall from the demolition to the protection course, through what existed problems are put up. The theory frame is consisted by theory of cultural relics preservation, theory of modern urban design and theory of recreation. Understanding the concept and connotation of value, the paper rationally analysis and recognize the multi-dimensinal value system of ancient city walls. Coordinating the conflicts between protection and development, the paper puts up three principles of original, systematic and sustainable based on the existence and trend of protection on ancient city walls. Methods on the protection and strategy for revival are got out. A coclusion can be submitted as follows:(1) The protection and revival on ancient city wall and its surroundings must be based on a multi-dimensinal value system.(2) Original, systematic and sustainable are basic principles of protection and revival on ancient city walls. The study of systematic and sustainable serve to balance the protection with modem city development(3) Ideas of integrated protection, dymantic development and value rebuilt should be formed in protection and revival on ancient city wall and its surroundings. The paper also gives concrete protection strategies and methods on every stratification plane.Macroscopic stratification plane: improve city spatial structure and adjust city functions;Intermediate stratification plane: coordinate region functions, control region buildings, strengthen the visual landscape control and straighten out traffic organizationMicroscopic stratification plane: not only propose detailed methods on protection and revival, but also do latter appraises by theory of recreation.Since the protection of ancient city wall and its surroundings reliy heavily on the actural practices,the theories proposed must be supported by some real cases of the conservation, the last chapter of this paper is a case study of the city walls with the above-mentioned theories proposed.
