All over the world, almost all nationalities boast their history of wearing headgears, which have passed down to the present in various forms. In China, the headgears spanned the entire history, which mirrored the changes of different eras. We are afforded the unique experience of the profoundness of the 5000 years of Chinese civilization by tracking down the headgears.With the regional and environmental variances, the customs in all nationalities differ and their headgears are all varied. Throughout the history, people from different nationalities and regions wear their unique and conventionalized headgears, by way of which we have an insight into their aesthetic psychology. The headgear is also the very one of the symbols that identifies and differentiates one’s nationality. Thus the headgears enjoy both the national and the regional characters.Throughout the history, different headgears vary from one another in terms of different beliefs, station, nationalities as well as dynasties in that social and humanistic attribute is implicated in the headgears covering all facets of political, economical, cultural and religious fields, considered as the symbols of rights, station and wealth. In the rapidly changing modern society, the headgears differ from what it used to be, not only in their substance but in their style. With the society moving forward, the headgears will keep changing as well.The modern headgears distinguish themselves mainly in their style, colors, substance, and decorative patterns. Coupled the status quo of social development with the characteristics of modern headgears, the orientation of modern headgears is summed up into 3 categories based on a historical perspective: fashionable route, luxurious route, and civilian route.On the temporal and spatial footing, this article revolves around the development and inheritance of headgears, the social and humanistic attribute implicated in headgears, the status quo of their development as well as their future orientation. It is divided into five parts: Part One, the origin and development of headgears, i.e. the re-examination of the historical importance of headgears; Part Two, the probe into their national and regional characters; Part Three, the analysis of their social and humanistic attribute; Part Four, the unfolding of the status quo of their development, and the analysis of the impact of social development on their inheritance; Part Five, the elaboration of ways how modern headgears are represented, and the tentative probe into their future orientation.
