Abstract


The one hundred year’s Chinese film was confronted with the significant turning point when it entered into the 1980s and 1990s. After“the fifth-generation directors”such as Zhang Yimou and Chen Kaige had their film pattern fixed which made their films in a tight cornor, the so-called“New-generation directors”came up. These directors did not have the same esthetic level, but with the same creative style as the label of generation to distinguish from other directors. They had the acuate discernment of the social change, and dared to attempt the new art practice.Jia Zhangke, one of them, developed his own film style and won the reputation worldwide. Howere, we ought to notice that because of Jia’s difference from the other“New-generation directors”, his productions were combined with strong regional culture background. Therefore, compared with others’, his films presented a special, typical and complicated“misplacement phenomenon”in the conflict of the self-expression and audience acception. This paper focused on the particular“misplacement phenomenon”which was often ingored, and discussed its reasons behind to study on Jia’s films. This paper was observed from the regional culture perspective. Based on what mentioned above, this paper probed into the“misplacement phenomenon”and its complicated cultural background from the point of Shan Xi’s regional culture and cultural mentality characteristics. In chapter three, this paper pointed out its reason——the predicament of cultural indentity.As the concultion,“My Words”part, based on the first three chapters, made an evaluation of the position of Jia Zhangke as well as his productions in the history of Chinese film. It also concluded Jia’s creation track as“breakthrough and forward”and had a prospect of his productions. It put forward the essence of film production in the new era is to make a breakthrough and go forward in regional culture.
