Abstract


In this paper, based on the corpus of the Central Government Work Reports of Premier Wen Jiabao in recent years (2004-2010), through analysis, we examine the discourse cohesion means in the government work reports.The first chapter introduces the object, the objectives, methods and corpus sources of this study. The study on the discourse cohesion means in Premier Wen’s Government Work Report is representative and reflects the discourse cohesion characteristics of official documents in a given period.The second chapter investigates the lexical cohesion means in government work reports, mainly from three aspects, such as the lexical reiteration cohesion, lexical relevance cohesion, and lexical sequences cohesion.Chapter three inspects the syntactic cohesion in the government work report. It is proceeded from the reference, substitution, ellipsis, etc. The reference means include personal reference, demonstrative reference and comparative reference. The substitution and ellipsis both include three patterns, such as noun, verb and the clause.The fourth chapter is the conclusion of the thesis.
