Endocrine Disruputing Compounds (EDCs) can interfere with organisms inside normalendocrine process to humans and wildlife health have the potential threat. Because theextensive use in our daily life, industry and agriculture, this kind of compounds widelydistributed in our environment. EDCs can be particularly damaging organisms even at smallamounts of concentration levels. So EDCs are increasingly being worldwide scientificresearch personnel’s attention. The present study mainly concentrated on the evaluation and survey of EDCs, effects onhealth and its function mechanism, etc. While the control of EDCs and removing mechanismin water environment is the still less. Abundant of EDCs through human and animal waste andbath wastewater to enter the urban sewage system. As the conventional wastewater treatmenttechnology is activated sludge, is mainly by removing the suspended solid pollutants andorganic matter and nutrient, but the traces of pollutants such as EDCs of environmentpersistent pollutants did not design. This study selected the three representative estrogen: Estrone(E1), 17β- Estradiol(E2)and Ethinyl Estradiol (EE2) as target compounds, to discuss the remove of the selected EDCsusing acclimated nitrifying activated sludge (NAS) in laboratory. The samples werepretreatment by the Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) technology. It can be synchronized toachieve the separation , purification and enrichment target EDCs. This study using theUltra-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS/MS) todetermine the target EDCs. Test results showed that the selected EDCs could be biodegradedby NAS which was cultured with ammonium as the sole energy source. And thebiodegradation rate of E1 is the fastest, E2 is the slowest. E2 was consecutively degraded to other products via E1 by using NAS. Cometabolism could improve the three hard-degradationEDCs biodegradability. The exist of EDCs could inhibit the activity of NAS, but theinhibition could recover. The biodegradation kinetics of all the selected EDCs followed asecond-order kinetic model in NAS. The biodegradation rate of the selected EDCs for the sizerelations were: E2>E1>EE2.Ont only the selected EDCs could be biodegraded by NASwhich was cultured with ammonium as the sole energy source, but also the ammonium couldbe biodegraded simultaneously.
