With a widespread application in civil engineering of the thin shell structures, it is important to confirm the limit bearing capacity of shells by taking plastic capability of materials into account.Based on the analysis of elastic stress distribution, the stress trajectory of shallow-spherical shell was gained, and a measure for choosing plastic format of shallow-spherical shell was suggested which has far meaning on choosing yield criterion reasonably. In the limit analysis of shells made of materials with no SD effect, the generalized yield criterion of axi-symmetric shell was educed based on Tresca criterion and analysis of stress distribution on cross section in limit states.Based on this yield criterion, the limit analysis of simply supported shallow-spherical shell under normal linear distributed load was launched, and the limit load of shell under different load as well as the corresponding internal force field and velocity field was calculated simultaneously. In the limit analysis of shells made of materials with SD effect, a dimensionless parameterη(0≤η≤1) was introduced to consider the transfer of neutral surface in plastic limit states. Combining with the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion and the flow rule, the location of neutral surface in limit states can be confirmed. Then, limit analysis of SD effect shallow-spherical shell with normal linear distributed load was carried out by two measures called the lower-bound method and the upper-bound method, and the corresponding internal force field and velocity field as well as the orderliness of limit load to tension-compression ratioαwas obtained. All result draw the conclusion that the limit load had something with the type of load(k1、k2 ), geometry character c2 and the tension-compression ratioαof shells. The type of load have great influence on limit load and this influence mainly lead by the effect on radial moment mr .And the limit load of shallow-spherical shell decrease with c2 increases, while increases whenαdecrease.
