Abstract


The development of next generation network (NGN), which is based on the softswitch technology and packet-switched technology, has drawn much attention. NGN should be a kind of network which can provide the operation of voice, data, video and multimedia.Most of present video communication systems in use are based on H.323 protocol. H.323 takes the strategy of convergence and layered control, which conforms to the traditional design idea in communication fields. This design idea doesn’t suit for the open and distributed Internet. SIP is proposed by IETF as a new signaling technology, which conforms to Internet circumstance. Comparing to H.323 protocol, SIP has the advantage of easy implementation, high flexibility, scalability and mobility. Video communication application of NGN based on SIP protocol has a broad prospect.At first two main signaling technologies, H.323 and SIP protocol are discussed and compared with each other. Then function structure, realization principle, message mechanism and signaling flow of SIP protocol are researched. The implementation of the SIP parser and state-machine are analyzed. Then SIP UA module is designed and realized according to the regulations of RFC3261. The video communication application based on SIP is designed and implemented on the Windows platform, which consists of four key modules: the SIP signaling module, the audio/video capture and coder, the network transmission and the main controlling module. Due to the instantaneous characteristic of video communication, this paper proposes the scheme of combining RSVP with SIP in order to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) and establishes the topology network for the experiment.
