Abstract


This thesis aims at require into the meaning of anarchy assumption of realism,and find the rationality and limitation of it.This thesis points out how to correct the limitation of anarchy assumption,and try to point out how to construct a theory that the international anarchy can be improved.Realist anarchy assumption root in the natural state theory by Hobbes.Hobbes contended that absent of public authority can lead equal individuals to violent conflict. Anarchy is a basic characteristic of international system,and thus become the logic beginning of construction of realist theory.In order to construct a concise and scientific theory,the realism contains implicitly three assumptions:a nation state is a coherent unity,and the international domain and domestic domain is separated,and a nation state pursuit security and power as its most important aims.These three assumptions make the anarchy assumption become mechanical determinism,and further become a vicious circle.There is no factor in realist theory that can eliminate anarchy.Therefore,hegemony and balance of power,proposed by realism,are nothing but the circle of power struggle.Realism consider only the power struggle between nations,while neglecting the purpose of political study,that is,how to build an order of justice.The abstraction of international politics by realist theory is not valid,and we should rethink the three assumption of anarchy theory,and reabstract the essential factors of international relations,and further develop a theory that can infer to the progress of international anarchy.Three active factors can be included into a progressive international theory:economic development,political development and mankind’s practice.
