Abstract


Beijing Traditional Quadrangle, which has full-bodied architecture traits, profound history and amenity inhabitancy environment, is not only prestigious in traditional Chinese architecture but also complimented in the world as the most characteristic part of Beijing city. But with modernization development of Beijing Traditional Quadrangle faces tremendous crisis, because of dropping behind the modern life style. The most useful method for the survival and development of Beijing Traditional Quadrangle is ameliorating or changing its appearance and function.The thesis is based upon the charm and distillation of Beijing Traditional Quadrangle, which can rebuild its appearance without breaching its soul. The author expounds the embarrassment of Beijing Traditional Quadrangle in the modern society, exploring the root and idiographic exhibition, in the third chapter. Then, in fourth chapter, the author classifies current alterations of Beijing Traditional Quadrangle, analyzes the form of alterations by spatial dimension, function position and ornamental figure, evaluates and summarizes the aftermath and infection of its rebuilding. In the fifth chapter, the author summarizes current practice in theory, in order to find out the disfigurement. The author discusses how to apply the theory into practicality, in the last part of this thesis.
