Abstract


Iconicity form or structure of language and the concept or concepts they express the similarity between the structure of the relationship. Forms and concepts exist in large Motivation. Iconicity theory derived from indirect speech acts that form of language and cognitive experiences are interrelated, and the use of indirect speech biggest motivation is politeness intent, that person's politeness intended image similar to indirect speech. This article from the distance iconicity, the number of iconicity and iconicity mark the perspective of indirect speech acts to explore the concept of politeness. People in order to avoid conflicts of politeness and use indirect speech, while the distance iconicity principle states that social distance in the use of indirect speech, the literal meaning and utterance meaning the greater the distance the greater the social distance communicators, the words expressed by the more politeness, so indirect speech act can reflect the psychological distance between communicators also embodies politeness intentions. Indirect Speech amount of information increases, the hearer is difficult to predict the information increases, the syntactic expression of their corresponding increase. Pointed out that the number of indirect speech iconicity syntactic relatively more than the direct speech, Glossematics more language more complex, it shows the more polite. This principle also explains why indirect speech acts can reflect people's politeness intentions. The literal meaning of indirect speech acts and discourse meaning is inconsistent. The mark made basic sentence iconicity and typical features are inconsistent, the literal meaning and utterance meaning inconsistent marking of means, this time on an indirect nature. There is a marked deviation from the conventional discourse expression, but also take into account relationships and polite. Therefore indirect speech is marked by sexual discourse, discourse by the tag of iconicity on additional significance, meaning that extra motivation that is derived from the polite intentions. Iconicity theory provides a new perspective of language study, it shows that the language is not entirely arbitrary. In fact, in addition to indirect speech, including English and Chinese, including most languages ??have Iconicity, iconicity of human language in common. As a method, which can further deepen our understanding of language and cognition, the relationship between form and meaning in a macro understanding.
