Abstract


Special children, who are not able to communicate with normal people smoothly because of their dysaudia, vision disorder or mental retardation, are a particular group of the society. Compared with normal children, they are facing more difficulties and challenges in both life and study, and more prone to mental problems. The questionnaires on Mental Healthy Test (MHT), Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran (EMBU) and Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) were used in this research to get the following conclusions:1. Mental health of special children: The overall mental health conditions of special children were lower than normal children, and remarkable differences could be seen in study anxiety, loneliness tendency and body condition. Among the three kinds of special children, deaf children were better than those who were blind and retarded, while those who suffered from mental retardation were the worst. There were notable differences in the full-scale scores in gender. Girl’s mental health level was lower than boy’s. In mental health level, no striking difference could be seen between the special children from city and those from the countryside.2. Influence factors of mental health: social support was obviously negatively correlated with the mental health of special children, and the subjective support could predict the mental health level of special children. The mental health of special children was obviously correlated with the way that they were brought up by their parents, that was, parents’ active educational methods would improve special children’s mental conditions and decreases their anxiety, while passive ones would increase their anxiety.3. The problems of mental health service: misunderstanding in special children’ mental health education; imperfection in carrying out of the mental health services; weak teaching power in mental health education, lacking of professional talents; serious defection in mental health education management; isolation of the mental health education and failure to achieve the School-home-society cooperation. Finally, some countermeasures were put forward in this thesis for the special children’s mental health education on the basis of empirical study.
