Abstract


Tennessee Williams (1911-1983 ) , known as the post-World War II one of America's most distinguished playwright for the American theater has made an indelible contribution. As one of the greatest dramatists of the twentieth century , his works , including \The study mainly at home and abroad for the Tennessee Williams drama skills , such as symbolism , expressionism . This article but never another angle systematic study of Tennessee Williams tragic female characters : Amanda and Laura . The works of Amanda 's Awakening , pain , and loss , and Laura indulging in a fantasy world on their own have glass animals . After Williams 's study , the authors found that one hero Amanda , a typical tragic roles , she has been trying to show in his play \Amanda as the traditional image of women by traditional culture as well as the influence of the surrounding environment , no matter how hard she to realize their value , and ultimately will fail , the performance of intense tragedy . Another tragic figure Laura is also thought that the impressive image of the tragedy . Laura did not dare to face reality , and can not communicate with the people around , and Amanda 's character is the opposite , is not immune to tragedy . The experience of these two tragic figure to show the tragic hero embodied . Amanda and Laura failure also pave the way for future research . Amanda and Laura 's personal experience is the tragedy of the culture and tradition of the female characters .
