Abstract

Objective: The efficacy on chronic phase of gouty arthritis treated with regulating and reinforcing spleen and kidney,expelling stasis and resolving phlegm following Traditional Chinese Medicine was evaluated,and the primary mechanism on how the herbal treated the disease was explored. Methods: A randomized, control method is adopted. 60 cases with chronic phase of gouty arthritis were randomized into two groups.The patients in treated group (30 cases) were administered with the herbal medicine following regulating and reinforcing spleen and kidney,expelling stasis and resolving phlegm following traditional Chinese medicine. The patients in control group (30 cases) were treated with routine therapy in Western medicine,Allopurinol. Observating 6 weeks,we evaluated the therapeutic effect of regulating and reinforcing spleen and kidney,expelling stasis,resolving phlegm stasis on chronic phase of gouty arthritis by using the curative standard and symptoms of TCM. Results:1.There is no significant difference in droping uric acid level between the two groups(P>0.05).2.The curative standard and symptoms of TCM of the treated group is superior to that of the control group(P<0.05) . The treated group is also better than the control group in improving joint pain, swelling, alleviating patient,s limbs heaviness, general lassitude,etc(P<0.05).3.The safety of the therapy in the treated group is higher than that of the control group. But there are no serious adverse reactions both in the two groups. Conclusion:There i good therapeutic effect both in the two groups in droping uric acid level. But the treated group is superior to the control group in improving TCM symptoms and alleviating clinical symptoms. So,The herbal medicine with regulating and reinforcing spleen and kidney,expelling stasis and resolving phlegm could be a safe,effective way to treat chronic phase of gouty arthritis.
