Abstract


\Since the the domestic rise Faulkner Studies craze since the eighties , very extensive study of this novel . Liu Xinmin , Xiaoming Han and Wei Yujie three scholars contend , there are some scholars have different views on the cause of the tragedy of life heroine Emily reason for the theme of the novel . However , this novel is mainly confined from the perspective of literary criticism . Relevance Theory as the language of influential theories from a cognitive point of view of the generation and interpretation of verbal communication discourse . Interpretation of literary works is a language mode of communication , it is the author and the reader to the text - based dynamic communication process , the associated theory from a way to provide a reasonable explanation or interpretation of literary works . Cognitive context as an important concept of relevance theory reflects the mental state that the speaker and the listener in verbal communication , able to explain the process of pragmatic inference . Interpretation of literary works is also a reasoning process , cognitive context is an important cognitive mechanisms affect the interpretation of text . In this study, by analyzing this novel \It is also of communicative intent to pass . Cognitive interpretation of the novel process , the study attempts to explain why in the subject Xiaoming Han 's point of view is more desirable , and why Southern Womanhood led to the tragic life of the heroine Emily . This study used qualitative research methods of analysis from the the novel extracted Center event , and analysis from two aspects of the theme of the novel , and Emily 's tragedy causes of these events from the perspective of cognitive context , and in the final summary . Through the analysis of the novels of the process , this study can provide an insight into the interpretation of other forms of literary works , at the same time as a literary language studies a useful attempt , combining literary criticism , to a certain extent mining language behind cognitive basis .
