Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Chinese traditional medicine named Fuzhenghuayu soup, which has been used in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, from the observation of urinary albumin excretion and clinical symptoms.Method: 60 experimental cases were divided into a control group and a treatment group randomly and parallelly.No significant difference of age, gender, course of disease and symptoms before the treatment lies between these two groups, thus make the comparison worked. For treatment group: foundation treatment and 300ml/day Fuzhenghuayu soup were taken. For control group: foundation treatment and 10mg/day Fosinopril Sodium Tablets were taken. Both groups accepted therapy for 3 treatment, in other words 3 months with each treatment lasting one month. Emphasis of observation was given to the change of clinical symptoms, urinary albumin excretion, blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin before and after the treatment as well as to the difference appears between the two groups.Result: Statistic analyze of clinical efficacy, safety and adverse reactions suggests that Fuzhenghuayu soup can visibly improve symptoms, signs and biochemical parameters of diabetic nephropathy patients who belong to syndrome of stasis due to deficiency of both qi and yin,a kind of TCM syndrome type,without any side affect. The total effective rate was 90.0%. The change before and after treatment and that between the control and treatment group were both of statistically significance (P<0.05), which means the treatment group apparently better than the control group.Conclusion: Fuzhenghuayu soup can lower urinary protein excretion and alleviate clinical symptoms , at the same time, it is safe and free of side effects, all these make it an ideal medicine for diabetic nephropathy.
