Abstract


This article puts its attation to the European comics-a blank in the domestic research of comic industry, especially focuses on the Belgain comic strips, as it has an important position in the history of comics in Europe and a worldwide influence due to "The Adventures of Tintin" and "The Smurfs".The anthor first tell us the history of the Belgian comics development. Comic strips rised as a branch of political cartoons, then the comic publishing industry reached the peak due to the popular comic magazines "Tintin" and "Spirou". Adult comics brought the bloom to the industry. However, suffered from the impact of Japanese manga, it went into a cooling-off period, but gradually recovered and showed a stable development. This article also summarizes the evolution of painting style in each period, introduced the "Marcinelle school" and the "La Ligne Claire", described the rise and decline of publishing model named "First in magazine then album", emphased the important role of comic fans in richen the sorts of comic publishment, the holding of comic festival and the academic reaserch in comics.Based on the history, different from other researches on comic industry, the author uses the media ecology as the threshold to examine the Belgian comic book industry. The ecosystem of Belgian comic industry environment is divided into three parts:the first part is the core cirle-content ecology based on the art property and symbol characteristics. Belgian comic has less nationalization themes, and is full of humor, using clean lines.The second part is the middle cirle-the ecologies have contected with the human resource, audience, social policies and economy. Belgian comic industry has a good cirle of audience indentfy changes, and the publishers operate according to the market laws. The third part is consisted of the influence from the foreign countries especially the American Comic books and Japanese Manga. For the more, the study tries to analyze the interaction of the three parts, by culture communication based on the product development chain and international communication. The article points out that the Belgian comic put its "niche" in a "national card", which reflects the relationship between the comic industry ecology and cultural soft power. Regarded the similarity between China and Belgium in comic industry as a precondition, the Belaian comic industry with its healthy ecosystem provides a cross-border picture for that of China. According to the experience of the Belgian comic industry, the Chinese comic industry should consider the implementation of a comprehensive industrial ecology in its development process, including the ecologies of the content, human resource, audience, product, investment, policy support, and other factors. We should focus on the cultural transmission based on the brand, put more effert in the innovation of content, and use exhibitions, tourisms to boost industry association. Chinese comic industry should identify their own "niche" under the concept of "great animation and comic industry", built the theoretical system with Chinese characteristics, and establish the "industrial ecological chain" to achieve scientific development of China’s animation and comic industry.
