Abstract


Hedges and originated in 1972 , following the famous professor of American and Chad fuzzy theory proposed by Lakoff . It vague language family members is a common phenomenon in language communication plays a very important role in communication . This article from the perspective study English language Hedges and verbal communication functionality . Of combined relevant research status at home and abroad , from a pragmatic perspective on the meaning of Hedges , classification and present status is discussed . First , the authors apply the principles of cooperation in the Pragmatic Principles , \the general function obtained Hedges . Second , the authors combined the number of occurrences of the specific context of the two corpora - Hedges and news and business negotiations , made ??distribution statistics analyzed in both Context Hedges and reflect the different function and the causes of the differences . Can be found by analyzing Hedges different manifestation in different contexts , Hedges and context are closely linked . Appropriate in certain contexts , the use of some of Hedges can help people to communicate in order to achieve the purpose of communication . Finally , the authors summarize the results of this research and points out the research on foreign language teaching has a profound significance , inappropriate use of some of Hedges will not only further enhance the level of foreign language teaching , but also to enhance the students' communicative competence in foreign language teaching .
