Abstract


Du Mu(803～852), was a leading Chinese poet of the late Tang Dynasty. His courtesy name was Muzhi. Regarded as a major poet during a golden age of Chinese poetry, his name is often mentioned together with that of another renowned Late Tang poet, Li Shangyin, as the Little Li-Du. He was also skilled in fu and ancient Chinese prose. For the past few years, people in the academic world have pay more and more attention to Du Mu and have got great research results.Du Mu’s view of life has a great influence on his view of literature. As well as his life, Du Mu’s literary creation was based on the temporal world. This paper attempted to contact his experience and literature, to comprehend better.The paper is composed of five chapters. The opening chapter gives a general overview of the research about Du Mu nowadays. The second chapter will review Du Mu’s politics career, family education and the progress of Chinese ancient literature, trying to find out the reason why his poems and essays are always related with politics and full of historical conscious. In the third chapter, Du Mu’s social contacts will be researched in three aspects:poems between Du Mu and his friends who share the same ambitions and purposes with, the poems to the friends he met in recreational activities, poems which are relevant to Buddhism, monk and temple. In the fourth chapter, I will review the role the nature has played in the history of Chinese ancient literature, and then give an introduction about the nature in Du Mu’s literary output. The last chapter hopes to pay attention to the view of Du Mu’s literature creation.
