Abstract


If Liang Xiaosheng’s novels are divided into two periods, so he staging of the early 1980s, is in the period of LiangXiaoSheng rigid performance, educated life eventually became the generation of the educated spokesman. His writings have always received deep-felt attention of literary criticism circles and their critical appraisal.1990s and thereafter can be seen as his later creating stage, Liang Xiaosheng’s novel-writing gradually set sights on the populace, and began to pay more attention to the common life. In this period, He has always been standing in the position of the populace and portraying thousands and tens of thousands of heartfelt wishes of Chinese populace. He said:"since I write novels for a wider range of people, and hope to write out some novels they like to read, I can not help but staring at the populace lifestyle". It can be seen from Liang Xiaosheng’s literary productions in 1990s that there is none didn’t fully incarnate the "populace consciousness" he adopted to observe and judge the objectives, as well as the popular humanistic cares showed in this "populace consciousness". In the environment of current noisy and fickle social culture, such writing stance of Liang Xiaosheng appears to be very precious; however, compared with the ardent response aroused by earlier literary about Educated Youth, Liang Xiaosheng’s novel-writing since 1990 has never received full attention. Especially for the populace consciousness represented in his novels, the literary criticism circles have much less deep and effective explanation and exploration. Therefore, this paper intends to take the method of combination of theory and practice, and based on the analysis in this paper, combines with the references offered by writers’creation talk, available relevant research results etc., to discuss and ponder on the resulted reasons for populace consciousness, the specific representation of populace consciousness and its distinctiveness and others one by one.This paper is divided into three main chapters to be discussed:The first chapter mainly discusses the resulted reasons for Liang Xiaosheng’s novel creating populace consciousness in 1990s. This chapter will argue from the inner and outer perspectives of Liang Xiaosheng’s life experience, the effect of Transformation Period on society and cultural atmosphere and so on.The second chapter mainly discusses the specific representation of populace consciousness in Liang Xiaosheng’s novels written in 1990s. This chapter will argue the specific representation of populace consciousness in Liang Xiaosheng’s novels through three aspects:the building of populace images, the expression of populace feelings and the formation of populace-oriented narrative style, in order to discuss the populace consciousness represented in Liang Xiaosheng’s novels.The third chapter mainly discusses the distinctiveness of populace consciousness represented in Liang Xiaosheng’s Novels Written in 1990s. Through the compare with contemporary writers, such as Chi Li and Fang Fang, the distinctiveness of Liang Xiaosheng’s populace consciousness is revealed. It is reflected in three main aspects which are the tragic stories, the introduction of narrative subjects’feelings, and the contradictions conflicted by two extremenesses.
