Abstract

Mass media played an important role during the past 20 year’s popularization of legal knowledge in China. Among them, the legal news in newspapers, as a carrier of large amount of legal information, played an important role in the process of building the rule of law in China. However, problems occurred after the mass media entered into the economic market era, such as over-pursuit of economic efficiency, vulgar content etc. The Metropolis newspaper, as a representative of the mass media, has more distinctive features of the market and visible tendency to entertainment news. The legal news reports, like violence, sex etc., as a key, deviated from the value orientation of the legal news and impacted, even blocked the effective spread of China’s legal news. Therefore, the research of the legal issues and entertainment news, must cope with strategies related to the process of developing of the rule of law in China.In addition, under the influence of Chinese traditional legal culture, the traditional rule of law and profound contradictions between the traditional legal concept and the modern rule of law spirit, the development of the rule of law is doomed to be very difficult and will take a long time. To a person who lived for a long time in the circumstance with insufficient democracy and rule of law tradition, it is indeed a hard process to adjust to a law ruling society. Under such a background, even though the tendency to amusement can soften the abstruseness of hard news, remit the baldness of the legal news and is in favor of popularizing legal knowledge to the reader, it will become a negative factor to the rule of law construction process. The mass media should be not only a publicity tool for the rule of law, but also an education feature and it should spread medium of legal thoughts, legal culture and legal civilization. Hence, the legal news carries greater social responsibility, in appliance and performance of the law, bring its supervision function into full play.The article tried to proceed from the existing problem of tendency to amusement in legal news in China, using the metropolitan newspaper as a benchmark. It chose the“West China Metropolis Daily”,“Beijing Times”and“Southern Metropolis Daily”as examples, investigated the legal news’ tendency to amusement in aspect of the politics, economy and culture, combining the self characters and discipline, summarizing the existing problems in the current legal news’ spread, providing analysis, reasoning and consequences, look for the solution of the problems, and thereby provide references for the legal news journalist in the practice of news spread. The whole article is composed by six parts, where the third and the forth part are the most significant ones. The detailed frame is as bellow:The introduction part: mainly introduces the research origin, research significance and research methods of this article.The first part: mainly explains the connotations of“legal news”and“legal new’s tendency to amusement”, summarizes the current status of our rule of law construction and the relationship between rule of law construction and legal news in metropolitan newspapers.The second part: mainly researches the current status of the tendency to amusement of legal news in metropolitan newspapers. First, it explains the reasons for choosing the three metropolitan newspapers; then it introduces the proportion of the legal news in the newspapers and adds detailed classification and analysis of the representation of the legal news’ tendency to amusement in contents and patterns.The third part: mainly discussed the reasons for the legal news’ tendency to amusement. In terms of the social background, it is mainly because of the combined action by the politics, economy and culture etc. in our society in the transformation period. Besides, there are other reasons such as the self reason and the reader’s psychological need etc.The forth part: mainly advise how to solve the problem of legal news’ tendency to amusement and implement the legal news’ rule of law function. The writer analysis from the aspects of how the metropolitan newspapers cope with the market economy, the medium’s sense of responsibility, the government’s administrative means and the reader’s consciousness etc.The epilogue part: generally comment the whole article.
