Abstract


As James Joyce's masterpiece \After eight years Judgments praise or blame, its important position in the literary world has been unquestionable, is to become a milestone in the modernist novel. Since its inception, critics from the psychological analysis, feminism, post-colonialism perspective it is a profound analysis. A great work is a product of history, it is bound to reflect the history, to bring the descendants profound understanding of history, to reflect on the history, \In \the questioned and resistance. Also, because history is not representative of all the historical facts, it is influenced by the ideology, culture, and many other factors, and thus with a certain degree of subjectivity. Different class will have a different interpretation of history to safeguard their own interests, is the different classes in the history of \important role. In Joyce, \The paper is divided into five parts, the introductory part is a brief review of the history of Joyce studies and research profile of \The first chapter of the thesis is to clarify the attitude Joyce history. For Joyce, due to the influence of British colonial rule, religious conflict, nationalism, and other factors intricate history of its efforts from a nightmare that woke up; affected by Vico et al, Joyce, that history is different forces factions, especially the British colonists, their followers and nationalists \In addition to them, \protagonist varies considerably, reflecting his view of history of anti-heroism. The second chapter discusses the \\Unfortunately and all this blame them. In addition, British colonists also aired the teleology, that the entire history of mankind are advancing towards a great goal. Then the real purpose of the analysis affect the presentation of the history behind this chapter is to seek ideological control and economic benefits that the real purpose behind the British colonists, while the nationalists is to seek self-comforting under British colonial rule, national dignity and national purity. In the last part of the chapter, the thesis also analyzes Joyce insight on the colonialists and nationalists presents history. The third chapter analyzes Ireland all the discussion out of the historical nightmare. This chapter show the efforts of the Irish out of the nightmare of history. However, these efforts (such as religion, nationalism, cultural revival, and motherly, etc.) has its own defects, can not effectively make Ireland out of the historical nightmare. The chapter then discusses Joyce's Irish feasible way out of the nightmare of history, by constructing a new patriotism to help Ireland out of the nightmare of history. The conclusion of the paper further summarize a profound understanding of the historical issues of great significance to the understanding of \its resistance to the so-called orthodox history.
