Abstract

Vico’s works didn’t receive the deserved attention in his lifetime. For a long time, people over-focus on Vico’s achievements in Historical Philosophy. In this paper, the author analyzes and demonstrates the View of Poetic Wisdom. First introduced is Vico’s life and academic achievement, summarizes the research results in the past and discusses the necessity for the further study. Subsequently, it illustrated the origin of Ancient Wisdom and analyzes a not well known book, named "Most ancient wisdom in Italy-sources from the Latin". In this book, Vico deeply used the Metaphysical method and dug out some most fundamental problem about understanding the truth. This book laid the foundation for Vico’s Academic Thoughts, is the seed of Vico’s Wisdom. This article focuses on the original culture, Poetic Aesthetics and Poetic Wisdom. It illustrates the connotation of the "Poetic Wisdom" by introducing the "New Science" and "Tribal Nature Law" and classifies the thinking of Poetic Wisdom as the following four aspects:universality and Fable Features, Thinking in images and the Metaphor of using an object to express words, Mythical thinking and imagination, Emotionality and Creativity for Poetic Thinking. Furthermore, it explains the historical causes of the decline. Finally, it introduces the Position of Poetic Wisdom in Vico Thoughts and summarizes his views about individual education and social education. As a unified whole, Vico’s Poetic Wisdom has a profound impact on present society, can be called as the Necessary Utopia.
