Abstract


Sea power advocates in Malaysia were analyzed from the point of view of international mechanisms . This paper argues that the formulation of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in 1982 to construct a range of sea power interests in Malaysia . Malaysia after independence in 1957 was the proposition is a 3 mile territorial sovereignty , there is no other specific sea power advocates . It is the Law of the Sea in 1982 to develop , construct Malaysia sea power advocates , such as 12 sea miles territorial waters , continental shelf and exclusive economic zone . International mechanisms to construct not only Malaysia 's sea power advocates , and provides a powerful support for the maintenance of its sea power . Malaysia International Court of Justice to maintain the sovereignty of some oceanic islands , but also ASEAN , FPDA multilateral cooperation mechanisms to protect their own maritime rights and interests . Based on the above analysis , we believe that the international mechanism is an important tool of the construction and maintenance of national interests .
