The Effect Evaluation of Emergency Safety Education on Pupils in Yanji City

Abstract


Objective To assess the current situation of safety knowledge, attitude to accept education associated with safety, accident and health risk behaviors of pupils. To evaluate the effect of the emergency safety education to the related situation mentioned above.Methods This is an experimental study. We drew 6 from the 32 primary schools in Yanji city using random sampling method, and divided the 6 schools into two groups at random, experimental group and control group. Each group has 3 schools. The Grade 4 students were chosen as our study object with cluster sampling, altogether 1577 ones. We carried on baseline survey to all the study students, and then implemented emergency safety education to the experimental group, meanwhile, the control group were given related intervention after research. The questionnaire used in "Injuries situation and demand on safety education among primary and middle school students in Yanji" by Li Chun-yu was chose as our research tool. All the data were input into computer and analyzed using SPSS for Windows 13.0.Results (1) Safety situation results:the rate of injury was 62.2%, which mostly occurred in school, covering 48.4%. The average score of safety knowledge was 49.51±14.22, with the highest average score in stairs safety,8.01±2.40, and the lowest score in road safety,2.98±2.34.94.2% of the students conveyed considered that it was necessary to learn safety knowledge, and 76.8% students considered that they need to set up safety education.(2)Homogeneous analysis results:There was no significance difference between experimental group and control group in general population characteristics(P> 0.05). It didn’t have significance difference in safety knowledge between two groups before intervention(P>0.05). It had statistics significance in the attitude between the groups(P<0.05), the attitude of the control group was better than that of the experimental group. The injury incidence in two groups didn’t have statistics significance(P> 0.05). The comparison between the differences of health risk behaviors, except for playing with fire, not washing hands before and after meals, nonobservance with traffic rules, the differences between other health risk behavior had statistics significance (P< 0.05).(3)The results of intervention effectiveness evaluation:the difference of experimental group student’s safety knowledge before and after the intervention had statistics significance (P<0.01), and the scores of safety knowledge increased after intervention. The safety knowledge scores between two groups had statistics significance after the 6 months’intervention (P<0.05), and the experimental group student’s safety knowledge score is higher than the control group. The experimental group student’s attitude of safety education had significant difference before and after the intervention(P< 0.01), and the attitude had improved after intervention. The injury incidence of experimental group students didn’t have significant difference before and after the intervention(P>0.05), and of the health risk behaviors, only drinking wine and inappropriate weight losing had statistics significance(P<0.01). After the 6 months’intervention, the injury incidence and health risk behavior neither in the experimental group or in the control group didn’t have statistics significance (P>0.05).Conclusion The pupils lack of safety knowledge, and the injury rate is relatively high, which makes it extremely urgent to implement safety education among pupils. The strong need to safety education is a good condition to the effect implementation of the education. The research shows that safety education can improve the level of knowledge, strengthen security awareness. Therefore, the related department of primary schools should integrate the safety education into the regular teaching program, and let the prepared community nurses take the health care job for students. Medical colleges and universities should help to develop teaching materials, provide technical support, ensuring the further development of school health care.
