Abstract

Xiangxueju’s edition of <the new proofreading of The West Chamber’acient edition> published in the Ming Dynasty when Woodcut’ illustration developed in a high level, which was considered the best work of Woodcut’ illustration Art in Ancient China.< The West Chamber >is the masterpiece of the best famous drama writer WangShifu who lived in Yuan Dynasty. The book told a“Love will find a way”story between CuiYingying who was the daughter of the Minister and ZhangGong who was a poor intellectual, which is sentimental and twisty.The Woodcut’ illustration of the <the new proofreading of The West Chamber’acient edition> painted by Qian Shubao who was the famous painter in Ming Dynasty and cutted by Huang Yingguang who was the outstanding character belonged to Huang’s family ,which was one of the old and well-known family in Woodcut in Hui Party during Ming Dynasty.The print process of the Woodcut’ illustration in acient is: creat paingting-engrave-print by brush, which was cooperated by the painter and the worker. The characteristics of the <the new proofreading of The West Chamber’acient edition> are: 1.the composition of the most of them based on the large scene from both high and distant perspective.2,describe the scenery in a subtle way by coordinating the words used with technique of metaphor.3.the style of painting not only neat and beautiful but“xieshi”, the using of line are rich and vivid. 4. there is evident literatural colour in the description of character.This kind of literatural colour involve many paries as follow:the evident distinguish between the noble and the humble ,the move full of plot, there’s tight tie between the character and the scene and so on. Actually ,support the words is the distinguishing feature of the Woodcut’ illustration .<the new proofreading of The West Chamber’acient edition> full of elegant temperament of intellectual ,which are decided by the way in which the Intellectual Painter get together to creat it .meanwhile ,this kind of temperament can suit the taste of receiver who are the intellectuals .The author believe that the Woodcut’ illustration should be considered as a independent arts type which has obvious difference from mordern engraving and the acient civil new year paintings .The value of arts and the language of arts of it are worth to make us to pay more attention and research .The mordern illustration in china should find source from the acient Woodcut’ illustration .The important point is we should find rhyme of painting and the deep thought of the words instead of using totem and symbols simplely .
