Abstract


As a contemporary avant-garde novelist,Yu Hua won a lot of domestic and international awards,and also his works drew wide attention from the foreign readers and the local researchers.But in the study of Yu Hua’s novels,few of them are focused on the female images.Contemporary studies of female images are always based on the prejudice of male-centralism.In Yu Hua’s novels,women are silent,even dumb,because most of Yu Hua’s female images are in a state of "being covered".In his novels,the re-presentation of the living conditions of Chinese women is worth deep thinking.To analyze the female images in Yu Hua’s novels,we find that women are sacrifice of violence and the attached gender of the society.In a society of serious gender prejudice,if a woman want to gain their self-esteem,she must be extrodinarily brave,and also they achieve the goal through a kind of "distorted pleasure".This kind of pleasure,in YuHua’s writings,is a stake for women.They always choose to run away with their lover. Women take their destiny as a stake,as a result,their gambling-like choice mostly dooms to be tragedies.Few researchers paid much attention to the meanings of these female images,and also the author himself may ignore them.This phenomenon could be explained through the theory of "social unconciousness".As Floam said:every society has its ability to devide the thoughts into conciousness and unconciousness.The famale conciousness in Yu Hua’s novels are always neglected, because the social consciousness determined the public speaking, thinking and logic,which focused the public attention on the male. As the aforementioned reasons,the female images in Yu Hua’s novels are always covered without any attention.If the living condition of the female images in these novels were to be neglected,even ignored without further concern about the living conditions of the female,it wouldn’t be benefitial to build the female conciousness and the constructon of harmonious society.
