Abstract

The reinforced concrete masonry shear wall has many merits as a new structural style, and been used more and more recently. As the main load-carrying and lateral force resistant member, the performance of shear wall’s end decides the earthquake-resistance performance of the building. Code for Design of Masonry Structures (GB 50003—2001) only defines transverse restrain of the reinforced concrete masonry shear wall structurally. In order to spread this structural style, it is necessary to study the end resistant of shear wall.In order to improve the mechanical performance of the end of the shear wall, a neotype concrete block in which reinforcement is layout is developed and used in the specimen. The mechanical behavior of the restraint flange member is analyzed by using the specimen under axial compression to simulate it.Firstly, the problem of low reinforcement ratio is solved by the development of the neotype block. The experiment in which there are 7 specimens and 1 unrestraint comparative specimen was performed in the paper. The result of the experiment shows: concrete is confined adequately by the reinforcement of the neotype block. The failure model of specimen with confined reinforcement under axial compression becomes better than that of comparative specimen because of the effective restrain action of confined reinforcement. And the ductility and bearing capacity are improved. Based on the comparison of experimental data, the specimen with circular reinforcement has a better performance than those with rectangular reinforcement on bearing capacity and deformation. The reinforced concrete masonry shear wall with the neotype block can be spreaded in the high earthquake intensity area.Secondly, the effects on the bearing capacity and deformation resulted from several factors such as the volume reinforcement ratio, the style and the space of reinforcement are investigated in this paper by analyzing experimental data. The formulas for calculating the maximum stress and maximum strain of the specimen are offered in this paper. And what’s more, a stress-strain curve equation of restraint flange member is concluded, showing that theoretical curve gets a good agreement with experimental one. Finally, Experimental conclusion is verified by ANSYS with reasonable model and parametric selection, and an extensive parametric analysis is performed finally based on the verification.
