Abstract


Objective : To investigate the Uygur and Han ethnic Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients with apolipoprotein E (ApoE) genotype distribution and allele frequencies , to understand whether there are differences between nationalities . Methods: The study subjects were from October 2004 to May 2007 in Xinjiang Uygur and Han ethnic ≥ 50 years two 8284 cases residents AD epidemiological investigation conducted by polymerase chain reaction - restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (PCR-RFLP), determination of the survey are likely to be diagnosed with AD patients 209 cases ( 98 cases of Han , Uygur 111 cases ) and normal controls 220 cases ( 103 cases Han , Uygur 117 cases ) ApoE the genotype and allele frequencies. Results : (1) ApoEε3 / 4 genotype in the AD group was 28.23% , significantly higher than 13.18% , the difference was statistically significant (P lt; 0.05); while ApoEε3 / 3 genotype in the control group was 68.18% , higher than the AD group, 57.89% , difference was also statistically significant (P lt; 0.05). ApoEε4 allele in the AD group was significantly higher frequency of occurrence , respectively, 14.83% and 7.95% , the difference was statistically significant (P lt; 0.05). ( 2 ) in Victoria , Han two nations ApoEε3 / 4 genotype distribution and allele frequencies ApoEε4 AD group and the control room of the nation , were higher in the AD group , the difference was statistically significant (P lt; 0.05 ) . But in Victoria , Han between different ethnic groups in AD patients no differences in the distribution of these genes (P gt; 0.05). ( 3 ) at the Victoria and Han ethnicity gender comparison , Uighur men ApoEε3 / 4 genotype in the AD group and control group differences (P lt; 0.05), while ApoEε4 allele in Uygur and Han women women of the AD group and the control group, there are differences (P lt; 0.05). Conclusion : ApoEε4 allele is a risk factor for AD , especially in Victoria and Han ethnic female AD patients play an important role in the pathogenesis ; ApoE genotype and allele frequencies at the Victoria and Han ethnic groups no significant difference in the distribution .
