Abstract


Language is the main means for human beings to convey thoughts, feelings and ideas in social life. Verb plays the vital role in any languages. In the research of Japanese, it is found that verb holds the prominent status. In parallel with the distinction between the intransitive verb and the transitive verb in the western languages, the verb in Japanese can be also classified into the intransitive verb and the transitive verb。However, in contrast with the intransitive verb in western languages, the intransitive verb in Japanese has uniquely semantic characteristic, that is, it is able to correspond with the objective case, expressing the meanings of possibility and passiveness by itself and being provided with the significance of passive pattern as well as the transitive verb of causative state, etc. This dissertation will focus on the above five significances by organizing and analyzing the cases to develop the deep and systematic research, thereby discussing the uniqueness of the meanings about Japanese’s intransitive verb. It provides the evidence in aspect of semantics for the distinguish between the intransitive verb and the transitive verb。
