Abstract

Purpose: Understanding overview of epidemiology and rehabilitation of patients with traumatic brain injury (Traumatic brain injury, TBI) rehabilitation centers hospitalization. Preliminary study for TBI patients more scientific and reasonable rehabilitation assessment and rehabilitation system, inpatient TBI rehabilitation of patients in order to improve the quality of treatment. Methods: A retrospective analysis of collection Huashan Hospital Rehabilitation Division the Yonghe points center from January 2004 to December 2007, the first time for TBI admitted between rehabilitation cases. Were recorded gender, age, occupation, type of cause of injury, type of injury, acute phase dysfunction, the rehabilitation project, the complications and the consolidation of the hospital, discharged the case history information. SPSS13.0 statistical analysis software for data analysis. Results: cases qualified a total of 411 cases, the male is about 4.9 times that of women. The average age (40.99 ± 15.47) years, the proportion of late youth (27 to 45 years old) was the highest (43.1%). The occupation of the majority of staff, workers, retirees, the constituent ratio of 27.7%, 18.5%, 15.6%, respectively. The cause of his injuries in a car accident the main constituent ratio of 62.8%. Type of injury occupying hematoma (65.7%), followed by cerebral contusion, subarachnoid hemorrhage, skull fractures; 62.5% of patients at the same time more than two and two types of injury. 93.2% of patients in the acute phase, coma, and 69.3% had cranial surgery, 58.2% had endotracheal intubation or tracheotomy. Patients since the onset of the play to go to rehabilitation centers, the average time (96 ± 152) days and transferred to a rehabilitation center, 73.7% of patients within 3 months after the onset. The average length of stay of patients (70 ± 4) days, 77.4% of patients hospitalized time in three months. 114 patients stay at a rehabilitation center in a coma or plants living state; addition, 31 patients with mild to moderate disturbance of consciousness, movement dysfunction exists in 243 patients, 150 patients with cognitive impairment, 139 patients with speech disorders mental affective disorder 31 cases 40 cases, 21 cases of dysphagia, others such as hearing, vision and other obstacles; except 222 cases coma and vegetative state, at the same time there are two and two or more dysfunction in patients. 100% of the patients received drug treatment, were more than 70% of patients receiving traditional Chinese therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and physical therapy, and to accept the 79 cases of patients with speech therapy, occupational therapy 20 cases, less than the corresponding dysfunction the number of people. Inpatient rehabilitation period, about 1/3 of patients with pulmonary infection, approximately 1/4 of the patients with urinary tract infections, 18.0% of patients with hydrocephalus, while 16.3% of patients with secondary epilepsy. Discharge, 1% of the patients recovered, nearly 70% of the patients improved, while less than 30% of the patient's condition healed. Conclusion: inpatient rehabilitation TBI patients mostly men, mainly in young people in the work of the majority of career staff workers. Accidents are the leading cause of injury for inpatient rehabilitation TBI patients. Inpatient rehabilitation TBI patient's condition is complex, heavier clinical manifestations of the acute phase. Coma and vegetative state patients with a higher proportion of the remaining patients are the most common motor dysfunction. Health care workers need to pay close attention to the patients during hospitalization may aggravate the condition, the function regress. TBI patients need to continue to improve the functional evaluation method, to building the system specifications rehabilitation treatment system.
