Abstract

Video-on-Demand, which is an important application in peer-to-peer networks, attracts a lot of researchers’ interests. For the reason that Peer-to-Peer (P2P) could provide a large-scale substrate networks for the VoD application many emerging P2P VoD content distribution schemes offer the basic function of data transportation in P2P networks. In this paper, we first present a survey and comparison of various P2P VoD content distribution schemes. We categorize the various schemes into four groups in designing data transportation method and also discuss the application-level network performance. Then we propose a multi-path content distribution arithmetic which is basing on the analysis of user behavior and real-time tracing. By predicting the hottest blocks in the system, it optimizes the efficiency of content distribution strategy. Finally, a video segmentation-aided P2P VoD VCR content distribution strategy is proposed which improves the user experience and reduces the workload of server and network. The Dynamic predicting strategy is basing on the research of VoD user behavior which collects the statistic of users’ action and takes the modeling. In respect of that work we could predict the latter actions and forecast the hottest and rarest blocks that would be considered storing first. The simulation results show that our strategy performs better than static and F/CN arithmetic on reducing the server workload.By using the representation of shot and scene, our system can offer a hierarchical understanding of videos to users. We analyze the user behavior of VCR interaction, and propose a video segmentation-aided P2P VoD system with VCR functionality. In the proposed framework, we present and implement a video-segmentation aided VCR P2P distribution strategy. Then we evaluate the performance of the system and the simulation results show that our mechanism could reduce the server workload and improve the VCR performance at end hosts.
