The intersection of city streets forms city street intersections. City street intersections are the important parts of urban public space. They are the space of city traffic flow, flow of people, steering, passage from the section of city traffic. And they are the extension of city streets design from the section of urban space design. City street intersections are the important nodes of landscape of urban public space. Street intersection design must obey the functional requirements of the whole streets system. We should determine the specific forms of intersections from both sections of traffic and spaces.In this paper, we start the research from the origin of urban public space and development on Shanghai street intersections, and we should start from both sections of traffic and space. First of all, we should classify the traffic factors of the street intersections in Shanghai to traffic capacity, drainage and intersection shape. And we classify the space factors to unity and recognition. The author analyses the relationships among street intersection and the image of the city, urban functions, and urban culture. Then, the author analyses the street intersections of Shanghai in-depth and sums up the development situation of street intersections in Shanghai from the development of motor vehicles, road capacity, travel, methods, signal lights set. At last, we have found four problems:the first, crosswalks are set unreasonably; the second, the time of signal lights are set unreasonably; the third, the architecture and environmental design of intersections are lack of coordination; at last, the landscape design is not in place.On this basis, the author sums up the general principles of street intersections design, transport, including the main design principles, the design principles of space, and then into the overall design of a step. According to the Shanghai street intersection and then the real problems, combined with various types of design specifications, targeted solutions, including:the first, we design crosswalks, analyze the relationship between the pedestrian and crosswalks, and take the use of the advantages of the new crosswalk lines for example; the second, set the signal lights, in particular, take the approaches of signal lights setting in Tokyo, in order to set up traffic lights junction services in Shanghai; the third, we design the public space including the style of architectures design, green land design, sculpture design so that we can position the intersection again.
