Abstract


Since modern times, it has been the main topic of Chinese society to look for the way to develop China, which led to the introduction of western sociology and the formation and development of Chinese sociology. The central spirit of Chinese sociology therefore is to understand and solve Chinese problems. Using them as motive and starting-point, Liang Shuming gradually develops his own distinctive rural construction thought. This paper, from the perspective of the history of Chinese sociology, analyses the literature of his rural construction. It first indicates the process of the formation of his thought according to the society background and family environment. Not only is this useful for us to understand his rural construction thought but also discloses that the formation of his idea reflects the close relationship between the development of Chinese sociology and its era. Second, analyzing the main contents of the notion, this article shows that his rural construction thought is the logical end of his other thoughts and the theory for his practicing his own whole thoughts. Third, he applied his thought to the experiments of village construction in Shandong of the central China. His doing resulted in the discussion about Chinese way out, and promoted the development of Chinese sociology. Despite the failure of the experiment, it also is worth doing for its giving us a good attempt. Fourth, this article made the comments on his rural construction thought, from the dimension of the sociological history, such as the indigenous resources of the development process of Chinese sociology, the localization of sociology, the development in the earlier period and the modernization of Chinese village sociology and so on. At last, this article articulates the real meaning of his idea.
